Abbotsdale is a small town in South Africa with 3762 inhabitants (as of 2011) in the municipality of Swartland , West Coast District , Western Cape Province . It is located 55 kilometers north of Cape Town and 5 kilometers southwest of Malmesbury at an altitude of 200 meters on the banks of the Diepriver .
This small, rural settlement was built on the Olyphantsfontein farm , which was bought by Bishop Greyson in 1870 to build a mission station. The city owes its name to Bishop Abbot, who was Bishop of Cape Town in 1877.
