Abbreviatio
The Abbreviatio even Abreviatio ( lat. For abbreviation ) is a common topos of medieval literature, especially the medieval Latin poetry , are reproduced in which essential text statements strongly ruffled. Already Matthew of Vendôme praised in his Ars Versificatoria , resorting to the rhetoric of antiquity and in particular to Horace , the brevitas (soon) as a stylistic ideal.
The stylistic device of the amplificatio (extension) served as a counterpart to the abbreviation . Both styles were described in the Poetria nova of Galfredus de Vino Salvo .
