from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Abd ar-Razzaq an-Naif ( Arabic عبد الرزاق النايف, DMG ʿAbd ar-Razzāq an-Nāyif ; * 1933; † July 9, 1978 in London ) was an Iraqi politician and Prime Minister of Iraq in 1968 . His term of office lasted only 13 days, from July 17, 1968 to July 30, 1968. He had succeeded Prime Minister Tahir Yahya , who had been deposed by the military and whose further fate could not be precisely determined. On July 17, President Ahmad Hasan al-Bakr took power in a bloodless coup and installed an-Naif. 13 days later, however, al-Bakr took over the post of president as well as that of prime minister. An-Naif was finally murdered on July 9, 1978 in British exile in London, ten years later. The assassin was quickly caught and sentenced to life imprisonment in 1979.
