List of Prime Ministers of Iraq
As Prime Minister of Iraq are both the Government during the British Mandate (1920-1932) and the pro-British Hashemite monarchy (until 1958) as well as those of the Prime Minister following republics.

British mandate
During the British mandate of Mesopotamia from 1920 to 1932, the office of prime minister was installed even before the establishment of the Iraqi monarchy. The first prime minister, Abd al-Rahman al-Kailani al-Naqib , stipulated that his cabinet should not have any Shiite members.
Kingdom of Iraq
The most frequent (14 times between 1932 and 1958) was Nuri as-Said the Iraqi head of government, his most prominent opponent was Raschid Ali al-Gailani . In fact, during the time of the Kingdom of Iraq, ministerial posts were only distributed among the 40 leading families.
Republic of Iraq
As a republic, Iraq has been both a presidential republic and a parliamentary republic several times since 1958 , with prime ministers from 1958–1968, 1991–1994 and again since 2004. In 1967, 1968–1991 and 1994–2003, the respective president also took office at the same time the office of Prime Minister fulfilled.
After the Third Gulf War and the fall of the Ba'ath regime, the country was initially under Allied administration. Since 2004 Iraq has been formally a parliamentary republic again. The federal constitution establishes the office of prime minister for the Shiites . As early as 1947–1948 the Sayyids were Salih Jabr and Mohammed al-Sadr, 1953–54 Mohammad Fadhil al-Jamali, 1957–58 Abdul-Wahab Mirdschan, 1958 Ahmad Muchtar Baban, 1966–67 Talib and 1991–1993 the Baathists Hammadi and Zubaidi Shiite Prime Minister. Before that, Shiites mostly held the post of President of Parliament ( Hammadi , Haddad).
