Abd ar-Rahman al-Bazzaz ( Arabic عبد الرحمن البزاز, DMG ʿAbd ar-Raḥman al-Bazāz ; * February 20, 1913 in Baghdad ; †  June 28, 1973 ibid) was an Iraqi politician and diplomat .

Abd ar-Rahman al-Bazzaz studied law in Baghdad and at King’s College in London and initially taught at some Iraqi universities before he was imprisoned for three years in 1941 for supporting the military coup Raschid Ali al-Gailani . From 1945 to 1955 he worked as a judge at the Supreme Court in Baghdad, 1955-1959 he was dean of the Baghdad Law College. During the government of Abd al-Karim Qasim , al-Bazzaz was in exile in Egypt and taught in Cairo.

After the (first) seizure of power by the Ba'ath party in February 1963, al-Bazzaz was appointed Iraqi ambassador to Egypt and in July 1963 ambassador to London. Chairman of OPEC from May 1, 1964 to April 30, 1965 . In 1965 he became Iraqi foreign minister for a few months in the cabinet of Arif Abd ar-Razzaq , and after ar-Razzaq's attempted coup, he even became prime minister in September 1965. As Prime Minister he was a member of the United Political Leadership , which was supposed to prepare the merger with Egypt, although he was rather pro-British and against Nasser. After the death of Abd al-Salam Arif , Abd al-Rahman al-Bazzaz was temporarily president for three days from April 13-16, 1966. The brother of the deceased Abd ar-Rahman Arif was then elected president . In August 1966, Abd ar-Rahman al-Bazzaz's term as Prime Minister ended. His successor was Naji Talib .

After the Baath party came to power (again) in July 1968, al-Bazzaz was arrested. Released in 1970 for health reasons, he remained under house arrest until his death.
