Abdallah Belaid Azhar (born September 21, 1939 in Casablanca , † December 13, 2015 there ) was a Moroccan football player .

Club career

Abdallah Azhar, who was born in North Africa, France at the time, joined the squad of the then flagship of the first division of France , Stade Reims , in 1958 at the age of 18 . In the face of competition from teammates such as Just Fontaine , Roger Piantoni , Jean Vincent , Raymond Kopa , and a little later Paul Sauvages and his compatriot Hassan Akesbi , the center forward only played one or two points in the first three years, but was then a reliable deputy. It was not until the 1961/62 season that he became a regular player at Reims due to an injury to Piantonis and scored nine goals in his 18 league games. At the end of this season he had such a significant share in winning the championship title , which was his second since 1960.

Since it was foreseeable that he would have to move back into the second ranks after Piantoni's recovery, he still moved to the newly promoted FC Grenoble . During his three years there - after only one season he was back in the second division with Grenoble , where his coach Albert Batteux was the same who had brought him to Stade Reims - Azhar was mostly a regular. In 1965 he returned to Morocco; How long he was there for TAS Casablanca and whether he played for other clubs afterwards cannot yet be determined.

Abdallah Azhar died on December 13, 2015 at the age of 76 at his home in Casablanca.
