Abdelkader Ferhaoui ( Arabic عبد القادر فرحاوي; * March 29, 1965 in Oran , Algeria ), also known as Kader Ferhaoui , is a former Algerian football player and current coach. He completed eleven games for the Algerian national team .

Club career

Ferhaoui was born in Algeria and started his career at HSC Montpellier . It was used for the first time in the 1983/84 season, and regular missions followed from 1985. The club played in the second division, but with players like Laurent Blanc , a golden generation was growing up at the time, including Ferhaoui. In 1987 he was promoted to the first division . The promotion team was third in the following season . In 1990 he won the French Cup . This qualified for participation in the European Cup Winners' Cup . Ferhaoui made the trip to Europe until he broke his jaw in the game against Steaua Bucharest , which he later described in an interview as the worst experience of his career. In 1993 he moved to AS Cannes , which was then coached by Luis Fernández . With Cannes he played in the UEFA Cup . In 1996 he returned to Montpellier. In 1998, when Ferhaoui was 33 years old, he decided to end his professional career. However, he was asked to move to AS Saint-Étienne to help them get promoted to the first division. This project succeeded only a year later. Ferhaoui was awarded a trophy UNPF as the best player of the 1999 promotion season . In 2000 Ferhaoui finally ended his professional career after 343 first division games and 30 goals. He played another year for Red Star Paris in the third division. Then he let his career in the lower leagues end.

National team

Ferhaoui made his unofficial debut on February 24, 1987, when he lost 1-0 to France with Algeria. However, the game that took place in Nantes was not considered an official international match. He made his official debut on March 16, 1988, when he was used in a 0-1 African Cup defeat against Morocco . Just three days later he made his goal debut in a 1-0 win against Zaire . It remained his only goal for Algeria. In 1988 he also played for the Algerian Olympic team. By the end of 1991 he had ten missions. He played his eleventh and last game on September 4, 1994 against Ethiopia .

Coaching career

After finishing his career, Ferhaoui worked for several clubs as a manager, scout or youth coach. Among other things, as president of the Espoir avenir organization near Montpellier, he organized football courses for children from suburbs. From September 2010 he worked for the first division club AC Arles-Avignon as assistant coach at Faruk Hadžibegić 's side. As such, he was released in April 2011. At the beginning of 2013 he took up the post of coach at the traditional sixth class club Sporting Toulon , but only stayed in office until the following summer.
