Abdul Karim Mustaghni

Abdul Karim Mustaghni (born July 11, 1911 - January 13, 2004 ) was an Afghan politician . Mustaghni was Afghan Defense Minister from 1973 to 1977.

He worked with Mohammed Daoud Khan on the bloodless coup and the establishment of the Republic of Afghanistan in 1973. The coup came about when the Shah of Afghanistan, Mohammed Zahir Shah , underwent eye surgery and lumbago therapy in Italy . Zahir Shah and his ministers knew that a coup was imminent, but Mustaghni led them to believe that it would not take place until months later. In addition to Zahir Shah, other important ministers were also outside the country at the time of the coup. Mustaghni was the Afghan ambassador to Poland and the German Democratic Republic .

After the Saur Revolution and the associated proclamation of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan , he applied for political asylum in the Federal Republic of Germany and lived in Darmstadt until his death .

Mustghni was the son of poet Abdul Ali Mustaghni which from Afghan President Hamid Karzai as the founder of modern Pashto - literature was called Afghanistan.
