Abednigo Valdez "Shaka" Ngcobo (born May 10, 1950 in Cato Manor , † November 1, 2014 ) was a South African football player . In 1979 he was footballer of the year.

Athletic career

After stints with the Zulu Royals and the African Wanderers in his hometown of Durban , Ngcobo moved in 1972 to the Kaizer Chiefs in Johannesburg , who discovered him during a friendly game in Durban. With the club, for which he ran up with several short breaks until 1985, he won several championship titles in the National Professional Soccer League as well as the cup competitions MTN 8 , Telkom Knockout and the official national cup .

1975 moved Ngcobo together with his club mates Kaizer Motaung and Pule Patrick Ntsoelengoe to the Denver Dynamos in the North American Soccer League . He later ran for the Minnesota Kicks in the North American League. In 1980 he moved to Uruguay for a season at Club Atlético Peñarol .
