The Aberdeen, Carolina and Western Railway ( AAR - reporting mark: ACWR) is an American railroad company based in North Carolina . The company is owned by Robert Menzies and is based in Aberdeen, North Carolina .

The company operates the 55 kilometer long railway line between Aberdeen (North Carolina) and Star (North Carolina) , as well as the 167 kilometer long Charlotte – Star – Gulf line leased from Norfolk Southern . In Aberdeen there is a transition to the network of CSX Transportation , in Charlotte and Gulf to Norfolk Southern and in Norwood to the Winston-Salem Southbound Railroad .

The company was founded in 1987 and took over the former Norfolk Southern route between Aberdeen and Star on June 19, 1987 from the Aberdeen and Briar Patch Railway . On May 1, 1989, the route between Charlotte and Gulf was leased by Norfolk Southern as part of the "Thoroughbred Program".

The most important transport goods are grain, wood products and building materials.

The vehicle fleet consists exclusively of used locomotives. Machines of the EMD series GP40-2LW and SD40-3 (conversion from SD40-2) are currently in use. In addition, the company owns several passenger cars with which a mobile restaurant operation was offered under the name "The Carolina Dinner Train".
