Above Rocks is a small town in Jamaica . The village is located in Saint Catherine , a parish in County Middlesex . In 2010 the population was 5,261 people.
Above Rocks was founded by Roman Catholic refugees in the early 19th century. These came from Haiti , where the Haitian Revolution was just beginning. In 1970 and 1991, Above Rocks was the ninth largest town in St. Catherine, with 2,084 and 3,262 people, respectively. The city has a rather rural character and is dominated by St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church . Above Rocks is home to many schools, universities, and institutions, but there is no grocery store in the town. Since the place is part of the bus network of the greater Kingston area, it has good transport links.
