The Eudenbach gliding area nature reserve has a size of approx.47.8 hectares and comprises hall 6 in the town of Königswinter in the Oberhau district and hall 23 in the town of Bad Honnef in the Aegidienberg district .
The site lies on a ridge of the Niederwesterwälder Hochmulde , sloping slightly to the south , about 300 m above sea level. NHN , and is part of the area called Mußer Heide (also Musser Heide ) for centuries in the area of the municipal or state border around the high point 304 m above sea level. NHN . It is the largest contiguous rough meadow area in the area that is not exposed to intensive agriculture. The sheep graze here in summer and a special fauna and flora has developed here over the decades. The use by glider pilots is between April and October and only in a certain area, so that nature is given sufficient rest time.
The Eudenbach glider airfield was placed under nature protection on April 29, 2004 by the Cologne district government . The protection was placed because of the special importance of the area for the preservation and restoration of lean grassland, in particular of lean and bristle grass lawn , of moist grassland, as well as a large contiguous, predominantly extensively used grassland area.
Immediately to the east, on the Rhineland-Palatinate side, is the Buchholzer Moor nature reserve with Lökestein and Sauerwieser Heide , which was placed under protection in 1982 in an area on the Lökestein of approx. 3.8 hectares and an extension in 2007 with a total of 67 hectares. To the north is the Komper Heide nature reserve .
