The Dondorfer See is located in the Siegtal near the city of Hennef and the city of Blankenberg . It was created as a result of excavation work in the area of a Sieg valley arm and is now a designated nature reserve. Its area is 20 hectares .

In the summer of 2008, a 24 m 2 plastic raft was attached to the lake by the Federation for the Environment and Nature Conservation . With its gravel layer, it should provide an artificial breeding ground for seagulls and common terns . Of the latter, there are only eight colonies with 130 breeding sites in North Rhine-Westphalia , as they only breed on gravel islands, which are rare here.
