Komper Heide nature reserve

Only rarely occurring vegetation in the FFH area

The Komper Heide nature reserve is located near Eudenbach in the city of Königswinter . The approximately 53.3 hectare area of the nutrient-poor areas with dwarf shrub heather , birch bog forest and heather bog make up the value of the area. The nature reserve bears the identifier "SU-028". The FFH area included is registered under “DE 5310-301”.

The Komper Heide was placed under protection by the Cologne District Government in 1993 . A renewed or extended protection status took place in 2005. The area is located in the Oberhau district south of the village of Komp and on the border with Rhineland-Palatinate . Immediately to the east is the “Buchholzer Moor with Lökestein and Sauerwieser Heide” nature reserve belonging to Rhineland-Palatinate and the local community of Buchholz (Westerwald) . To the south, on the North Rhine-Westphalian side, is the Eudenbach glider airfield , which is also under nature protection under the registration number "SU-085".

Embedded in a larger, nutrient-poor forest area is a slightly north-sloping, dammed-humid heather area that is seeped through in several gullies. A clearing, which is free from woodland and partially pushed away, offers heather vegetation of different levels of humidity and merges into wet alder and birch forest at the edge. Several streams flow out of this headwaters, which cut quickly deeper, cross a beech forest and unite in the area. The higher-lying southern parts of the area are characterized by birch-oak forest and spruce forest, the north-west is used for agriculture.
