Brölbach is an area registered with the European Union in accordance with the provisions of Directive 92/43 / EEC ( Fauna-Flora-Habitat Directive ) under the number DE-5110-301 in the Oberbergischer Kreis and Rhein-Sieg District .

The area includes large parts of the banks of the Bröl and Waldbrölbach . There are several nature reserves within the area.

• "Hillenbach Valley" south of Elsenroth
• "Brölbach-Aue Große Wiese and Dicksteinswiese" near Homburg-Bröl
• "Brölbach-Aue On the Auel near Hombrug-Bröl"
• "Bröl, Waldbrölbach and adjoining forests of the middle Bröltal to the south" near Winterscheid

description

The area covers 825 ha Woodruff -Buchenwald, English oak forest - hornbeam forests , wet alder-ash and softwood alluvial forests, Luzulo -Buchenwald and underwater vegetation. Steep banks, sand and gravel banks, pools and small islands in the river bed offer rich habitats. The floodplain between Bröleck and Bröl is often bordered by steep, wooded slopes, also by rock walls, but is predominantly overgrown by near-natural, moist forests. The alluvial forest is traversed by several permanent water-bearing oxbow lakes and silted up channels.

Animal welfare

In this nature reserve there are salmon , bullheads , river lampreys and river lampreys worthy of protection .
