A nature reserve (NSG SU-057) east of Ruppichteroth - Schönenberg has been on the Scheidthecke and Hoverbachtal since 2011 . It is a former limestone quarry and the adjacent section of the Hoverbach stream.

The nature reserve lies between Schönenberg, Etzenbach and Scheid and has a size of 9.3  hectares , of which a third is overgrown with beech - oak mixed forest and oak- hornbeam mixed forest. The distance of the protected stream is approx. 500 m. Scheider Strasse divides the area.

description

The stream bed of the Hoverbach meanders in the upper part of the protected area. The bed, one to two meters wide, is stony and gravelly. The 30 m wide valley floor is wet, partly swelly and almost entirely covered with alder trees. Meadowsweet tall herbaceous corridors dominate among them. Hazel bushes grow in the 0.54  hectare quarry area . On the spoil dump, under an oak-hornbeam stand, you will find mainly forest ringel and single-flowered pearl grass .

In addition to dipper and gray wagtail , rare butterflies such as the great schiller butterfly , the small kingfisher and the purple silver butterfly can also be found in the reserve . On plants grows here z. B. the stately orchid , the high cowslip , the red light carnation , the cuckoo light carnation and the eared devil's claw .

Agricultural use is partially permitted, including cattle troughs and existing cattle drives .
