Abrahams Kinder is an art and dialogue project by the artist Jens Galschiøt . The project focuses on religious fundamentalism and intends to establish and promote the interreligious dialogue between the monotheistic religions Judaism , Christianity and Islam . The sculpture , which is part of the dialogue project, is currently (4/2015) on display in the Art Center Silkeborg Bad .

history

The project began as a reaction by the Danish artist Jens Galschiøt to the Mohammed caricatures . The artist says that the drawings not an expression of freedom of expression are or a way how to get a dialogue of religions could bring off, but an attempt Muslims to provoke and bully. However, he also thinks that there are good reasons for a discussion about the religions and therefore started his comprehensive dialogue project.

Description of the project

According to Galschiøt, the central point of the project is the collection of quotes , with 600 of the “lightest and darkest” quotes from the Torah , the Bible and the Koran . The quotes are shown on screens in the base of the sculpture "FUNDAMENTALISM". The sculpture is made from 8000 books / rolls made of copper. With his project, the artist wants to show the similarities of the monotheistic religions and takes the view that these are so alike that they are difficult to distinguish from one another.

The project was supported by both the then Bishop of Funen Kresten Drejergaard and the politician Anna Rytter , who converted to Islam , in that they both appeared in a documentary film about the project in 2011 . In 2014 Galschiøt presented his project to the Danish Parliament, the Folketinget .

quiz

The project also includes a quiz to guess which religious scripture ( Torah , Bible or Koran ) each individual quote comes from. The aim of the quiz is to illustrate how difficult it is to distinguish between the three scriptures of the monotheistic religions ( Judaism , Christianity and Islam ).
