AIDOH

In 1995 Galschiøt started the AIDOH project on the occasion of the World Summit for Social Development in Copenhagen. The acronym stands for Art In Defense Of Humanism ( Art in Defense of Humanism ). He wanted to create a forum for artists worldwide who want to use their art to defend humanism and human rights. There are currently no funds for global implementation, which is why he has so far acted alone within the framework of AIDOH.

Artistic work

Pillar of Shame outside Hong Kong University, recorded in 2009

Impressed by the pictures of the fall of the Berlin Wall in autumn 1989 , Galschiøt designed a sculpture with pieces of wall to commemorate this event. He received two pieces of the wall from the city of Berlin , but he did not find sufficient support to erect it as a memorial in Berlin. The model was exhibited in the house at Checkpoint Charlie , the pieces of the wall are together with human sculptures from the work in the sculpture garden in Odense.

On the occasion of the UN climate conference in Copenhagen he initiated the art happening SevenMeters.net . Various art projects were carried out from November 13th to December 19th, 2010. These included the installation of the seven meters line in Copenhagen , an installation made up of thousands of red flashing LEDs , which over a distance of 24 kilometers marked the height of seven meters above sea level, the potential sea level after all the ice in Greenland had melted. He juxtaposed the mermaid, the symbol of Copenhagen, with the sculpture Survival of the Fattest . It depicts an overweight Justitia sitting on the back of an emaciated African man who is up to his hips in the water. It is meant to be a symbol of the double standards and self-righteousness of the rich world . With her scales she sits on the starving man, the symbol of the Third World , pretending to be doing justice and doing what is best for him. Other installations as part of SevenMeters: The pulse of the earth and Wandering Refugees at the Bella Center subway station at the entrance to the climate conference, Freedom to Pollute and Balancing Act (balancing act). SevenMeters also found an adaptation in Mexico by the artist Emmanuel Cruz .

In 2015 he realized the project Abrahams Kinder , which deals with the monotheistic religions: Islam , Christianity and Judaism .

In 2017 he designed 70 bronze sculptures for the socio-cultural ship project on escape and migration “ Arriving safely with safety ”.
