Abram Anschelowitsch Manevich ( Russian Абрам Аншелович Маневич , Ukrainian Абрам Аншелович Маневич Abram Anschelowytsch Manewytsch , Belarusian Абрам Аншэлавіч Маневіч Abram Anschelawitsch Manevich * January 13 . Jul / 25. January  1881 greg. In Mstsislaw , Mogilev Governorate , Russian Empire ; † 30th June 1942 in New York , United States ) was a Belarusian - Ukrainian - American painter.

Life

At the age of 20, Manevich left his place of birth in what is now Belarus and studied at the Kiev art school from 1901 to 1905. He then continued his studies in Munich, where he had his first solo exhibition in 1907. In the same year he moved back to Kiev, where he specialized in post-impressionist landscapes. Between 1916 and 1917 he lived in Moscow, where he expanded his repertoire to paint cityscapes. After the October Revolution he returned to Kiev and there became one of the founding professors of the Ukrainian State Academy of Arts , where he taught landscape painting. In 1921 he emigrated to the USA, where he settled in New York in 1922 and died in 1942. In 1972, his daughter donated an extensive collection of his work to the National Art Museum of Ukraine ; others are in large museums and private collections in Ukraine, the USA, Canada, France, Israel and Russia.
