Maria Frieden Abbey (Kirchschletten)

The Abbey Maria Peace is a Benedictine monastery in Kirchschletten in the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bamberg , which the Federation of the Bavarian Benedictine Abbeys belongs.

history

The Maria Frieden monastery in Kirchschletten is a foundation of the Benedictine Abbey of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in Vigan , Philippines . To build the monastery, the sisters bought an estate in Kirchschletten from Niederaltaich monastery in 1953 . After Archbishop Joseph Otto Kolb and the Cathedral Chapter of Bamberg had approved the establishment and settlement of the sisters, they were able to officially take possession of the monastery on June 23, 1953. The monastery, which is inhabited by Filipino, Japanese and German sisters, was elevated to an abbey in 1973 and thus gained independence from the Filipino mother abbey.

Due to the international composition of the convention, the sisters see themselves as a living sign of the coexistence of different cultures and languages. They earn their living with a farm based on organic farming, a guest house, a candle workshop and a monastery shop.

Sister Mechthild Thürmer OSB was elected abbess on October 21, 2011.
