Sales data are in retail all data passing through POS systems in cashing on the point of sale ( English sale point of , German  POS workstation ) are recorded.

Type of data

Recorded statistical parameters are e.g. B. the type and number of items sold as well as their price , the time stamp and the article number ( Global Trade Item Number ) and their comparison with so-called hit and run lists . These tell you which items were sold the most and which were less. It also records whether a cash sale or card payment was made.

procedure

The sales data are usually sent by branches or franchisees to the server at the head office or to suppliers after the store closes and used centrally and decentrally for decisions . Retail decisions resulting from sales data affect the entire inventory management system, such as sales , order quantities , procurement management , goods issue , goods receipt , goods rotation or inventory management system .

For each individual item, the store stock at the end of the day is calculated from the stock at the start of sales and the scanned sale. If the comparison with the reorder point shows that this has not been reached, an automatic subsequent delivery is triggered on the following day .

Market research companies are also interested in sales data . For the purpose of market research, the trading companies deliver the sales data recorded via scanner registers directly to the respective institutes.
