Académie des Beaux-Arts de Kinshasa

The Académie des Beaux-Arts de Kinshasa (German: Academy of Fine Arts Kinshasa ) is an art academy in Kinshasa , the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo . The school is the only art academy in Central Africa that teaches at a university level . The Académie des Beaux-Arts offers courses in metalworking , interior design , visual communication , sculpture and painting , among other things .

history

The academy was founded in 1943 by the Belgian missionary Marc Wallenda in the city of Matadi in Bas-Congo under the name École Saint-Luc à Gombe Matadi . In 1949 she moved to Leopoldville, today's Kinshasa, and was finally given the title Académie des Beaux-Arts in 1957 . A reform of higher education in Mobutu's time made it part of the national technical high schools under Law No. 01-170 of October 7, 1981 .
