Achille Peretti (born June 13, 1911 in Ajaccio , Corse-du-Sud , † April 14, 1983 in Neuilly-sur-Seine , Hauts-de-Seine ) was a French Gaullist politician , the President of the National Assembly and mayor for 36 years von Neuilly-sur-Seine and was a constitutional judge.

Life

After attending school, Peretti studied law and after completing his studies worked as a lawyer in Ajaccio, the capital of the Corsica region. During the Second World War he joined the Resistance , took part in the liberation of France at the side of General Charles de Gaulle and the Forces françaises libres and later worked as prefect .

In 1947 he was first mayor of Neuilly-sur-Seine and held this position after several re-elections for 36 years until his death in 1983. His successor as mayor of Neuilly-sur-Seine was 1983-2002 Nicolas Sarkozy , the Peretti's political protégé was . The French nobles Christine de Ganay, Sarkozy's stepmother , and Peretti were married.

Peretti was elected a member of the National Assembly in 1958 and represented the Hauts-de-Seine department in this until 1977. After he was Vice President of the National Assembly between 1964 and 1969, he succeeded Jacques Chaban-Delmas as President on June 25, 1969 . He then held this office until April 1, 1973.

In 1977 he was appointed a member of the Conseil constitutionnel and was a member of the Constitutional Court of France until his death.
