Ackerman Ridge is a prominent and rocky mountain ridge in Marie Byrd Land, West Antarctica . It forms the northwestern extension of the La Gorce Mountains in the Queen Maud Mountains .
It was discovered and mapped in December 1934 by the geological team around Quin Blackburn (1900–1981) during the second Antarctic expedition (1933–1935) of the US polar explorer Richard Evelyn Byrd . The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named him after Lt. Ronnie J. Ackerman of the United States Navy , navigational officer with the VX-6 squadron during Operation Deep Freeze in 1965 and 1966.
