Acropora nasuta is a hard coral (Scleractinia) from the Red Sea and the tropical Indo-Pacific . The main area of distribution is the coral reefs around Indonesia , Northern Australia, the Philippines and the Maldives . It lives there on the upper, light-flooded reef slopes.

Acropora nasuta forms plate-shaped, flat colonies. The branches are thicker than other acropores. The coralites, which are the lime shells of the individual polyps , look like small noses standing upside down and gave the coral its scientific species name. The colonies are mostly light brown in color, with pink, purple, or blue enlarged terminal polyps.

In the reef aquarium , Acropora nasuta needs the best conditions, i.e. very strong lighting and strong currents. The water must be very clean and contain only minimal traces of nitrate and phosphate .

Some other Acropora species that are closely related to Acropora nasuta are grouped together as the Acropora nasuta group. In addition to Acropora nasuta, these include :

  • Acropora cerealis
  • Acropora lutkeni
  • Acropora secale
  • Acropora valida
