Out of the Dark (Into the Light) ( Engl. For: " Out of the dark (in the light) ") is the eighth and penultimate studio album of Austrian musician Falco , in which he has worked. It was released on February 27, 1998, three weeks after his accidental death.

background

Attempt to return

After a time when Falco was mentioned in the media mostly because of psychological problems - a paternity test had shown that he was not the biological father of his daughter Katharina-Bianca - he left the song Mutter, der Mann written by Peter Hoffmann with him at the end of 1995 the coke is there to be produced. The accompanying video was shot on a golf course in autumn 1995. The song was presented to the record company EMI Music , which could be convinced by it. The single was finally released in February 1996 under the pseudonym "T >> MA aka Falco" and achieved acceptance among listeners both in Austria and internationally. The song had caused a stir because of the ambiguous lyrics. The lines of the refrain come from the Berlin Pennäler song Mutter, the man with the coke is there .

In August of the same year, Falco released the second harbinger of the album, Naked . This time the producer was the German Thorsten Börger , who a few years later also produced the then extremely successful German girl group Tic Tac Toe . White Duke is named as the songwriter, rumored to be a pseudonym of Falco himself as a throwback to David Bowie . The video for the song is based on the book Rock Dreams and shows dancing naked women in the uncensored version. As always, it was produced by the DoRo team . Falco saw the success of the single as a gauge of the album that was to come. He originally wanted to release a long player under his second pseudonym shortly afterwards. However, since fewer than 50,000 singles could be sold in Germany and the success in Austria was rather moderate, Falco rejected his ideas. Years later, some of these songs were released on the posthumously released album Damn We Are Still Living .

Retreat to the Dominican Republic

After the failure of his single Naked, Falco retired to the Dominican Republic to write songs for his album, which should be called egoists . On his 40th birthday, he allowed the guests of his party a glimpse into the upcoming album and played the songs Egoist and Out of the Dark . Several times the media noticed Falco's new life in the Dominican Republic. Falco rarely came back to his home country Austria, concerts were rarely held. For example, he was flown to Vienna on the occasion of the 30th anniversary gala of the Ö3 channel . There he disclosed another excerpt from egoists . It was the song Der Kommissar , which led to a worldwide success in 1981, in a new version, the 2000 remix. At the end of the year, Falco recorded his last song Crisis . At Christmas and New Year's Eve he gave two concerts in the Sofiensäle and in the Excalibur City .

Posthumous publication

After Falco's death, the long player Out of the Dark (Into the Light) , a modified version of the actual album Egoisten , was released. From this emerged the title song Out of the Dark , which made it into the top 3 in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. Over 900,000 units were sold in Germany alone. After the album was released, great success was achieved in all of these countries. Overall, the album is said to have sold more than 2.5 million times internationally and reached number 16 in the Top 30 World Beat.

Among the tracks on the album were the singles released during his lifetime and the songs that Falco had recorded during his time in the Dominican Republic. In addition to Out of the Dark , Egoist was chosen as the second posthumous single , which even hit number 3 in the charts in the Czech Republic.
