Symphonic is a posthumous music album release by the Austrian musician Falco , who died in a car accident on February 6, 1998. On January 25, 2008 a limited promotional edition of the CD / DVD was released for the first time, the official unlimited DVD and CD was released on February 1, 2008 shortly before the tenth anniversary of the musician's death. In Germany, the DVD immediately took first place in the sales hit parade. In Austria, both the DVD and the CD succeeded in doing this.
background
On May 12, 1994, Falco gave a first and one-time concert with an 80-man orchestra, on the Domplatz in Wiener Neustadt in front of 10,000 spectators. The background of this event was the celebration of the 800th anniversary of the city elevation of Wiener Neustadt.
In 1995 he held a reading at the Stadttheater Wiener Neustadt on chamber music interpretations of his songs for the poetry school . This project also goes back to the initiative of the then SPÖ mayor, Peter Wittmann , and Raoul Herget , head of the Josef Matthias Hauer Conservatory.
A mixed three-camera video recording and a DAT tape with the stereo live mixer sound remained from the concert at Domplatz , which formed the basis for the production.
In 2005, the production of a posthumous Falco CD with orchestral and symphonic elements as part of the TV documentary Falco lives! announced by Thomas Rabitsch.
Since the recordings of the concert were of poor quality, the sound tracks of the symphony orchestra were re-recorded for the DVD, which was also planned, and mixed with Falco's voice filtered from the tape. Cheers from the audience were also re-recorded by the Falco fan club and cut to the recordings. So the DVD is actually a semi-live DVD. (Falco vocals = live, music and audience = studio).
“It was actually a completely insane undertaking, characterized by stage victories and defeats, certainly the most elaborate restoration or reproduction of a live recording that has ever been made in our country. It was applied audio and video forensics. "
New orchestral soundtracks were also recorded for the CD, but in contrast to the DVD, old studio recordings of Falco's voice were mixed in here - the main tracks on the CD are 100% studio versions of the live tracks. In addition, several bonus tracks have been added to the CD album. (3 of them are posthumous orchestral versions that were not played at the concert. 4 are live tracks from the DVD, as the original vocal tracks of the studio albums no longer exist for the songs in question.) The singles Die Königin von Eschnapur 2008 (originally from the album Verdammt Wir noch Leben ) and Der Kommissar 2008 (from the album Einzelhaft ) used.
Booklet & bonus material
A 16-page booklet was enclosed with the DVD containing comments by Falco's band members and contributors, a promotional photograph, a newspaper report on the concert on May 13, 1994, production photos and a list of the DVD contributors. Furthermore, excerpts from his reading and a making-of of the production are shown on DVD.
The CD was accompanied by an 8-page booklet containing an explanatory text by the CD producer and former band leader Thomas Rabitsch, a newspaper report on the concert on May 13, 1994, a promotional photograph of the Falco band in a classic look and a list of Includes CD contributors.
