Solitary is the first studio album by the Austrian musician Falco . It was published in 1982, in addition to Austria and the Federal Republic of Germany, also in the USA , Canada , Italy , Spain , Japan and Finland .

Emergence

In 1980, Falco, who was still playing in the band Drahdiwaberl at the time, got a contract for three solo albums from Markus Spiegel . Since Falco's song Ganz Wien had become a great success at the Drahdiwaberl concerts, he wanted to use it as the first release. After the radio boycott of Austrian radio against this recording, he recorded the title in an English version That Scene and published it in early 1981. The single was quite successful in Austria and made it to number 11 on the Ö3 hit parade , a radio show that was popular at the time; however, it went unnoticed abroad.

production

In the spring of 1981 Falco began working with producer Robert Ponger, who already had a melody without lyrics. This was originally intended for Reinhold Bilgeri , but he turned it down. Falco, however, was so enthusiastic about the melody that he took it on. Within three days he wrote a suitable text and recorded the play Der Kommissar . At that time a second title was created, Heroes of Today . Although Falco wanted to release this number as a single (with Der Kommissar as B-side), he had to bow to those in charge of his record company, who preferred the opposite arrangement, as they believed Der Kommissar had more potential.

success

In November 1981 the single Der Kommissar was released in Austria and shortly thereafter reached number 1 in the charts. Two months later, this also succeeded in Germany and France as well as numerous other European countries. In Canada, the single achieved gold status. In the US Billboard charts, the title came in at number 72, in the disco charts at number 1. Falco stayed in America for six months to promote the album, as it was very successful abroad. The song also led the charts in Guatemala . The commissioner - including remix versions - has been sold around seven million times worldwide. Following this great success, Falco went on tour for around a year, extending from Mexico to Asia .

The LP was represented in the Canadian album charts for 20 weeks, where it rose to position 31. In the USA it reached the 64th position on the US Billboard charts. In the summer of 1982 machine burns was published ; the single made it into the top 10 in Austria, Norway and Germany and confirmed its success.

Promo singles

Falco also released 2 promo singles for his album in 1982. The song Auf der Flucht was released in the USA and France under the English title On the Run and reached number 9 in the US Hot Play Charts. The second promo single was too much heat and was released in Germany.
