features

The beetles reach a body length of 0.6 to 0.7 millimeters. Their body is faintly shiny and darkly haired. The posterior angles of the pronotum are pointed and drawn back. The former is at most slightly more shiny than the upper wing and is evenly structured very closely and punctiform. The wings are equally wide in both sexes. They are colored black and are maximally as long as they are jointly wide. The antennae are yellow-brown, their first two links are rust-red in color. The legs are reddish yellow, the thighs ( femora ) are often darker in color. One can distinguish the type of Acrotrichis sericans by the broader pronotum with more acute and longer tapering back angles and the more matt upper side of the body.

Occurrence and way of life

The species occurs in Europe and the Caucasus . It is rare everywhere in Central Europe. The animals live in swamp areas on damp moss and decaying plant material such as reeds.
