Adán Cárdenas
Adán Cárdenas del Castillo (born February 22, 1836 in Rivas , Nicaragua , † July 12, 1916 in Managua , Nicaragua) was a Nicaraguan politician of the Conservative Party and from 1883 to 1887 president of the country.
Life
Cárdenas was the first Nicaraguan to be trained as a doctor in Italy . During his reign he attached particular importance to the promotion of education , especially popular education. This included building schools in different parts of the country. He also founded the Escuela de Artes y Oficios .
He finished the construction of the Ferrocarril del Pacífico railway line . On October 6, 1885, the first locomotives ran between Managua and Granada.
In 1886 he raised Masaya to the rank of department .
