Adalbert Kovács (born September 28, 1920 in Timișoara ) is a former Romanian football player . The striker played 172 games in the highest Romanian football league, Divizia A (today League 1 ).

Career

Adalbert Kovács started playing soccer in his hometown Timișoara near Chinezul Timișoara . After the outbreak of the Second World War , his career began in Hungary with Kaposvári Rákóczi FC , as there the game had not been interrupted.

After the war ended, Kovács returned to Romania and joined ITA Arad , the most successful club of the post-war period. With ITA - later under the name Flamura Roșie Arad - Kovács was able to win the Romanian championship three times in 1947 , 1948 and 1950 and the Romanian Cup in 1948 and 1953 .

At the beginning of the 1954 season , Kovács left Arad and returned to Locomotiva Timișoara in his hometown. After he was the second best scorer in Divizia A in his first year there , he was less used in the following years and rarely shone as a goalscorer. After relegation at the end of the 1956 season, he ended his career.

National team

Kovács only made three appearances for the Romanian national soccer team . He made his debut on September 21, 1947 against Czechoslovakia . He played his last international match on May 2, 1948 against Albania .
