Adam Christopher Oldenburg (born June 30, 1736 in Fredriksten ; † December 2, 1803 ibid) was a Danish major general of German origin.

Origin and family environment

He came from a German aristocratic family from the archbishopric of Bremen , which over the centuries had spread to Denmark via Mecklenburg , Prussia and Livonia . The first family member in Denmark was Lieutenant Colonel Adam Christopher von Oldenburg, who entered Danish service in 1718. Adam Christopher Oldenburg dealt with here (in Denmark nobles who are not titled usually do not have a from before the family name) was his grandson and the son of Frederik Oldenburg (died before April 18, 1749) and Regina Maria Blix (1706–1762) .

Military career

Oldenburg joined the Römling Infantry Regiment as a sergeant and became an ensign there in 1753 . In 1756 he became second lieutenant , but immediately took his leave, since he had inherited a property in Mecklenburg, probably Wotrum. Soon afterwards, however, he took part in the French army as a volunteer in the Seven Years' War at the Battle of Rossbach on November 5, 1757. He then returned to Danish service in 1758. He was used again in Norway, which was then part of Denmark, initially as a captain in the Smaaland National Infantry Regiment. In 1761 he was transferred to the Oldenborg Grenadier Battalion in Holstein , in 1774 he became a major and in 1788 a lieutenant colonel. From 1790 he served again in Norway, first as Vice-Commander of Fredriksten, then as Colonel of the Infantry . In 1798 he received his retirement as major general with a pension. The pension was converted into waiting payments in the same year.

Oldenburg died on December 2nd, 1803 in Frederiksten.

family

He was married twice: first since August 10, 1764 with Maria Schoeller (1741–1770). The couple had the following children:
