Adam Hinrich Schwartz (born May 24, 1678 in Narva ; † July 11, 1762 in Riga ) was a Baltic German mayor of Riga.

Adam Hinrich Schwartz was the son of Johann Christoph Schwartz (d. 1699), who was the mayor of Narva. He was married to Anna Helena Gnospelius and is considered to be the progenitor of both Rigas lines of the Schwartz family, the older Rigas line of his first-born son Johann George (1712-1780) and the younger Rigas line of his eighth of nine children, his fifth son Johann Christoph (1722 -1804).

Life

Schwartz attended the city school in Narva and completed a commercial apprenticeship there. From 1696 to 1704 he worked in various commercial positions in Narva, Novgorod, Holland and England; In 1705 he was resident in Riga as a meat and grain dealer and shipowner; he often stayed in Holland, England and Sweden.

In 1717 he became a citizen of Riga and brother of the Great Guild , in 1719 a councilor, in 1740 mayor and in 1754 eldest mayor in Riga, where he owned several properties. He campaigned for the rebuilding of Riga after the Great Northern War .
