Count Adam II. Batthyány ( Croatian Adam Baćan ; ung .: Batthyány Ádám ; born September 13, 1662 , † August 26, 1703 ) was a Hungarian general and nobleman. From 1693 to 1703 he was the Ban (Viceroy) of Croatia .

Life

Adam II was the son of Christoph II Batthány , who died in 1687. His father, a general during the Turkish War , included his son in a hussar regiment in the campaigns. On October 9, 1683 Adam took part in the storming of the Gran Fortress . During the conquest of Buda, he captured 12 richly laden Turkish galleys. For his services he was raised to the rank of lieutenant general, then general. In 1693 he received the banks of Croatia , Dalmatia and Slavonia .

On November 25, 1692, he married Eleonore Strattmann , the daughter of Imperial Court Chancellor Count Theodor Heinrich von Strattmann . The couple has two children - Ludwig Ernst and Karl Josef . After the death of her husband, whom she survived by 40 years, Eleonora Batthyány-Strattmann took over the guardianship of the two sons.
