Adam Jones (historian)

Adam Jones (* 1950 in London ) is a British Africanist and professor at the University of Leipzig .

Life

Jones studied German and Modern History at Oxford University , then worked as a teacher in Sierra Leone . He received his PhD from the Center of West African Studies at the University of Birmingham . He completed his habilitation at the Institute for Historical Ethnology at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main and has been Professor of African History and Culture at the University of Leipzig since 1995. He retired in October 2016.

Among other things, he dealt with sources on (West) African history and the history of German African studies.

He is editor of History in Africa magazine .
