Adam Honory Kirkor (born January 21, 1819 in Slivino , Mogilev Governorate , Russian Empire ; † November 23, 1886 in Krakow , Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria , Austria-Hungary ) was a Polish-Lithuanian publisher , journalist , archaeologist and historian . He also published under the pseudonym Jan ze Śliwina .

Life

Adam Kirkor was the son of Karol Kirkor and his wife Tekla Kirkor. In the 1850s he was the editor of the Vilnius Governorate's Memorial Books . In 1855 he became custodian of the Vilna Museum of Antiquities and secretary of the affiliated Archaeological Commission. Around 1860 he became the editor of the Wilnaer Bote ( Wilenski westnik ).

From 1865 he was a corresponding member of the Society for History and Archeology of the Baltic Provinces of Russia .

From 1868 to 1872 he was with N. I. Kostomarow and N. N. Jumatow editor of the Russian-language daily newspaper Novoje wremja . In 1871 he moved from Saint Petersburg to Krakow.

Kirkor was first married to the actress Petronela Helena Kirkor geb. Majewska and in second marriage with Maria Celina Celestyna Kirkor geb. Boczkowska married.
