Adam Price (2016)

Adam Price (born September 23, 1968 in Carmarthen ) is a Welsh politician and chairman of Plaid Cymru since 2018 . He has also been a Member of the Welsh Parliament for the constituency of Carmarthen East and Dinefwr since 2016 .

biography

Price was born the son of a miner in Carmarthen and attended Amman Valley Comprehensive School in Ammanford, Carmarthenshire . He studied at Cardiff University and obtained a Bachelor in European Community Studies in 1991.

Political career

Price ran unsuccessfully for the Gower constituency in the 1992 general election . He was elected as a Member of the House of Commons for the Carmarthen East and Dinefwr constituency in 2001 and held the seat until his resignation in 2010.

In 2013, Price announced his return to politics and the intention to run for the National Assembly for Wales in 2016 . In the 2016 National Assembly election for Wales , he won a seat in his former lower house constituency, Carmarthen East and Dinefwr .

In 2018, Price ran against the party chairman Leanne Wood, who had been in office until then . He had previously expressed displeasure with Wood's course. Price clearly prevailed in the election and failed with 49.7% in the first round only just because of the absolute majority. In the runoff election , Price prevailed against his challenger Rhun ap Iorwerth with 64% . Wood was eliminated in the first round.

Under Price's chairmanship, Plaid Cymru took a clear position in favor of a second referendum and staying in the European Union .
