Adam Immanuel Weise (born April 7, 1776 in Weimar , † July 2, 1835 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German painter, engraver, art collector, writer, art historian and drawing teacher.

At the age of 16, Weise became a student at Georg Melchior Kraus' drawing school in Weimar. At that time he earned his living by coloring copperplate engravings. Trained in copper engraving by Conrad Westermayr , he then worked as an illustrator.

At times he joined the Heidelberg Romantic Circle .

Weise studied from 1811 in the history class of the General Art Academy of painting, sculpture, engraving and architecture in Dresden with Friedrich Matthäi .

From 1813 to 1815 he took part in the Wars of Liberation . Then Weise became a drawing teacher at the Francke Foundations .

The University of Jena awarded him a doctorate and in 1817 appointed him extraordinary professor for the fine arts. From 1820 he also held the position of inspector of the newly founded "Royal Copper Engraving Collections at the University of Halle-Wittemberg".

In 1823 he was professor of the drawing arts at the Royal Friedrichs University in Halle (Saale) .

In addition to his educational work, Adam Weise wrote four books on art history.
