Life

Between 1554 and 1559 Adam de Craponne built the Canal de Craponne , which is why it bears his name. This is used to irrigate the Crau landscape near Arles . To do this, he uses the water of the Durance . Initially, from 1554 to 1556, he only built a smaller canal, which he expanded to its planned size over the next three years. He was able to finish his work as planned, but only with the help of Nostradamus , who supported him financially. However, the implementation of his plan to dry up the swamps around Arles and Tarascon failed. His death in 1576 is a mystery: it appears that he was poisoned by competing engineers while building a canal for Henry III. should build.
