The Adams Mountains are a group of peaks in the Queen Alexandra chain of the Transantarctic Mountains , the highest point of which is Mount Adams with a height of 3596 m .
Mount Adams and the Adams Mountains are listed by the US Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names in the naming of geographical objects in Antarctica under the common ID 69. They are surrounded by the Beardmore , Berwick , Moody and Bingley glaciers . The summit group was discovered by participants in the Nimrod expedition (1907–1909) under the direction of the British polar explorer Ernest Shackleton and named after one of its discoverers, the deputy expedition leader Jameson Adams (1880–1962). Mount Adams was later named by participants in the Terra Nova Expedition (1911-1913) under Robert Falcon Scott .
