Adelheid Kastner

Adelheid Kastner (born August 17, 1962 in Linz , Upper Austria ) is an Austrian psychiatrist . The trained specialist in psychiatry and neurology is a primary physician at the Clinic for Psychiatry with a forensic focus at the Kepler University Hospital . As a recognized expert in the field of forensic psychiatry , she worked, among other things, as a court expert in the Fritzl case and the Kremsmünster case .

Life

Kastner received his doctorate in 1986 from the Medical Faculty of the University of Vienna. After completing her specialist training in psychiatry and neurology in 1998, she began working in the psychiatric consultancy service at Garsten Prison, and later at the Linz and Steyr Prisons. In 1999 Kastner set up the Linz Forensic Follow-up Care Clinic (FORAM), which was later followed by the clinics in Salzburg and Amstetten. A forensic department was set up in 2003 for the Wels prison under Kastner's direction. In 2005 she was appointed to the primary office of the newly created forensic department at the State Neurological Clinic Wagner-Jauregg in Linz. She has been working as a forensic psychiatrist since 1998 and has been repeatedly appointed as a forensic expert in this capacity. Due to overload, Kastner was removed from the list of sworn court experts in April 2010. Since then, it has only been sworn and appointed by the court on an ad hoc basis in special cases.

In November 2015 Adelheid Kastner was awarded the Golden Decoration of Honor for Services to the Republic of Austria . Kastner is currently working on establishing a forensic adolescent psychiatry.

The Fritzl case

In 2009, Kastner was commissioned with an expert opinion on one of the most prominent cases to date in the Fritzl case. The experienced forensic psychiatrist takes this extraordinary criminal case as an opportunity to reflect on the normality of evil in her book Offender Fathers and to answer the question of which mechanisms work in these men through numerous interviews with violent offenders.
