Adelindis von Buchau

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Adelindis von Buchau , also called Adelinde, with the original name "Haddellind" (* 735 at Andechs Castle ), was the founder of the Buchau women's monastery in what is now Bad Buchau am Federsee . She is not to be confused with Adelindis , the 2nd abbess of the monastery.

Life

Coat of arms of the founder of the monastery, Adelindis

Adelindis was the daughter of Duke Hildebrand, a member of the Longobard nobility and later on the protection of Charlemagne Duke of Spoleto . Her mother came from Bavaria . She married the Franconian Count Warin around 750 . In 770 she and her husband founded the Buchau monastery .

Nothing further is known about the grave of the founder. Presumably she was in Buchau herself once in her life, but this cannot be proven by documents to this day. The day of death on August 28 of an unknown year is also unprovable.

Regional culture

In her memory, Bad Buchau celebrates the Adelindis Festival , a local festival and children's festival , every two years on August 28th .

The Bad Buchauer thermal baths Adelindis-Therme was named after their name . The source from which the water containing hydrogen sulfide is pumped up from a depth of 800 meters and feeds the Adelindis thermal baths at 47 degrees is called the Adelindis spring . The spring water is bottled and sold under the name Adelindis-Sprudel . Adelindis II is a second thermal spring, opened in December 2004, next to the Adelindis spring in Bad Buchau.
