The aristocratic seat of Kirchberg is an abandoned castle in Kirchberg an der Iller in the Upper Swabian district of Biberach .

Location and previous owner

The former castle , of which nothing has survived, was on the Danube-Iller-Rhein-Limes . On the opposite side of the Illertal in an easterly direction, about ten kilometers as the crow flies, was the late antique cohort fort Caelius Mons .

Today the church , the rectory and the kindergarten of the independent community are located on the site of the aristocratic seat in Kirchberg . The facility is said to have been built in 1244 by the Lords of Kirchberg. Other owners were the bailiffs von Schellenberg , the noble house von Freyberg and later the former imperial abbey Rot an der Rot as well as the former women's monastery Gutenzell .
