The company is the world's largest manufacturer of viscose staple yarn as well as the fourth largest of acrylic fibers ( Grasim Industries ), the largest manufacturer of carbon black ( Birla Carbon ) and rolled aluminum ( Hindalco-Novelis ) and the fourth largest of insulators .
In 2011 Birla Carbon took over the American carbon black manufacturer Columbian Chemicals from One Equity Partners .
