Grasim Industries Limited is the main company of the Indian group of companies Aditya Birla Group .
The company manufactures cement , viscose fibers , textiles and chemicals , especially caustic soda .
The company was founded in 1947 as a textile company immediately after India gained independence. The production of chemicals in 1972 initially served to supply raw materials for viscose production. The entry into cement production took place through a takeover.

Chemicals
In 1972 Grasim began producing 33,000 tons / year of caustic soda for its own viscose production. In the meantime, this has increased to 190,800 tons / year (2006), which makes Grasim the second largest Indian manufacturer.
The production program now also includes chlorine , aluminum chloride , sulfuric acid , vinyl sulfate and raw materials for the production of saccharin and drugs.
