Adolf Billen

Adolf Billen (born June 17, 1911 in Kaschenbach ; † August 11, 1979 in Bitburg ) was a German CDU politician .

Life

Billen grew up on his parents' farm with an old distillery in Kaschenbach. He attended elementary school from 1917 to 1924, from 1924 to 1927 the commercial school and from 1927 to 1928 a school in Belgium and the agricultural school in Bitburg and learned the trade of agricultural master and took over the farm in 1947. In 1937 he became a member of the NSDAP . In the meantime he took part in the Second World War from 1941 to 1945 and was then taken prisoner by the Americans. From 1947 to 1961 he was chairman of the cattle breeders' association as well as other activities in various professional associations. He headed the farm until 1971; since then this has been continued by his two sons. From 1975 onwards Billen worked as an honorary judge at the Federal Court of Justice .

politics

After the war, Billen went into politics. From 1951 he was a member of the CDU. Before that, he was a member of the local council of his home town of Kaschenbach, where he also served as mayor, and of the local council in Wolsfeld . In 1960 he was appointed second district deputy of the Bitburg district, in 1964 he was promoted to the first district deputy, and he later carried out the office in the Bitburg-Prüm district until his death. From 1951 to 1971 he was a member of the state parliament of Rhineland-Palatinate . There he was chairman of the agricultural policy committee from 1968 until his departure. He also campaigned for reconstruction and economic development in his home region. In 1959 he was a member of the 3rd Federal Assembly .

family

From 1948 Billen was with Anneliese geb. Wollscheid married. He was the father of three girls and two boys. His son Michael Billen later also became a member of the state parliament, his brother Johannes is now the local mayor of Kaschenbach.
