Adolf Kaim * ( June 15, 1825 in Schelklingen ; † August 4, 1887 in Biberach an der Riss ) was a German school teacher and musician in Biberach an der Riss.

Life

Adolf Kaim was the eldest son of the model teacher in Schelklingen Heinrich Kaim (October 2, 1792– March 31, 1874) and his wife Marianna Steinhart (baptized December 6, 1802; † July 15, 1874). His younger siblings were Heinrich (Schelklingen 1834 – Heufelden near Ehingen / Donau 1878), also a school teacher, and Karl (Schelklingen 1837 – Ehingen / Donau 1911), founder of a clothing store in Ehingen. One of his nephews was the member of the state parliament and canopy capital Emil Kaim (politician) .

Adolf Kaim was born in Schelklingen on June 15, 1825. He received basic training in music from his father and was trained as a school teacher. Pastor Franz Xaver Reihing in Schmiechen (Schelklingen) taught him to play the violin and the art of composing music. Kaim then continued his education at the Conservatory for Music in Stuttgart and learned to play the organ. On May 1, 1848, he was employed as a sub-teacher in Biberach an der Riss. His main field of activity in Biberach was music. In 1852 Kaim became the organist for the Catholic masses at the Biberach parish church of St. Martin, a simultaneous church for Catholics and Protestants.

Like his father Heinrich Kaim, founder of the Schelklinger Liederkranz, Adolf Kaim became active in the Liederkranz movement and was the conductor of the men's choir of the Liederkranz Biberach from 1857 to 1875. He founded a mixed choir, which was called the Oratorio Association and was also director of the Singkranzes, the Turn- und Pfarrcäcilienverein. He taught singing in the Real and Latin School, the female advanced training school and the secondary school for girls. Kaim organized the Tenth Song Festival of the Swabian Singers' Association in Biberach in 1860 and the Knechtfeier on the 50th anniversary of Justin Heinrich Knecht's death in 1867 . In 1867 he founded an association for Catholic church music, which was linked to Cäcilianism. Kaim was also a founding member of the German Cecilia Association and organized the Biberach general assembly in 1877.

Kaim was an excellent composer. The best known of his works were: two Te Deum, a one- and a four-part Vespers, graduals and a four-part "Domine, salvum fac regem". From the age of five, Kaim was restricted in his work due to illnesses and finally died at the age of 62 in Biberach on August 4, 1887.
