At the age of 16 he came to Graz and attended the landscape drawing academy. Afterwards, his artistic path took him to Vienna , Venice , Dresden , London , the Czech Republic , Belgium and via the Netherlands, shortly before his death, back to Graz. He devoted himself entirely to the portrait and achieved a considerable quality in it. Among others, he portrayed Pope Leo XIII. , Emperor Franz Joseph I and numerous other members of the European aristocratic society of that time.

In Graz, his side altar painting from 1887 hangs in the Church of the Brothers of Mercy.

After his death, Adolf Pirsch fell into oblivion, also in Slovenia, where his death was only announced five years later in a lengthy article about his life. He has been rediscovered in recent years. His life story, which took him to various European countries, is particularly interesting. Particularly interesting are the circumstances of his birth in Gradac, which are closely interwoven with the structure of the local Ritter von Friedauschen ironworks .
