Jacob Philipp Adolf Scherzer (also Adolf Scherzer ; born November 4, 1815 in Neustadt an der Aisch ; † January 23, 1864 in Ingolstadt ) was a Bavarian military musician and composer .

Life

Adolf Scherzer was born as a scion of the Neustädter branch of the Franconian family of musicians Scherzer, which was decisive for the city music of Erlangen and Ansbach . He received music lessons on many instruments from his father Jacob.

At the age of 18, he volunteered in the Royal Bavarian 7th Infantry Regiment in Ingolstadt in 1834 and became Royal Bavarian Music Master there in 1848 . In this position he composed several marches, of which the Avancier-March, created around 1850 - now known as the Bavarian Defiliermarsch  - is the most popular.

He is buried in the Westfriedhof in Ingolstadt in a grave of honor .

In 1995, Scherzer erected a memorial at Peter-Kolb- Platz in his native Neustadt an der Aisch .
