Adolf Schinzl

Adolf Schinzl (born April 29, 1833 in Brno ; † March 22, 1899 there ) was an Austrian officer and archivist.

Life

Adolf Schinzl was born in Brno in 1833. He served in the k. and k. Austrian Army, where in 1855 he was first lieutenant in the Line Infantry Regiment No. 8 - Archduke Ludwig . In 1886 he was a captain, 1st class of the army, in service in the war archive. In the same year he was appointed field commander in Josefstadt “with temporary retention in his current charge” and then promoted to major in this function. In 1892 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel in the same position. In 1893, Schinzl was "taken into well-deserved retirement at his request, while at the same time announcing the expression of the utmost satisfaction". Schinzl died in his hometown in 1899 at the age of 66.

In addition to his military service, Schinzl worked on the publication of the General German Biography (ADB). Between 1883 and 1894 he wrote biographical articles for the ADB 95 mainly on members of the Austrian military.
